Physical Therapy Employment

We are looking for an experienced Physical Therapy Assistant to join our hospital team.

The Physical Therapy Assistant implements specific treatment and exercise programs for individual patients under the direction of a physical therapist. Collaborates throughout process with patient, family and/or significant others (persons served) and interdisciplinary treatment team.

Essential Functions

Assists the Physical Therapist during patient testing and evaluations and complex procedures.

Carries out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients as determined following the evaluation and establishment of the physical therapy treatment plan by the physical therapist of record.

Following consultation with the physical therapist of record, instructs person(s) served re: home program and discharge recommendations.

Implements the physical therapy intervention plan either directly or in collaboration with others (other team members for interdisciplinary patients). Directs PT Aide, Tech and/or Rehab Tech regarding activities to assist them in carrying out interventions.

Monitors the individual’s response to intervention and notifies the physical therapist of record when change of treatment plan is needed, prior to any planned discharge, and in response to a change in the patient’s medical status.

Communicates progress toward goal achievement with person(s) served throughout the intervention process. Educates and trains person(s) served, verifies learning through return demonstration, questions, etc.

Documents services as required. Maintains records required by setting, payors, and regulatory agencies.

Prioritizes own workload. Consistently meets productivity standard of six hours of direct patient care per day.

Demonstrates active involvement in performance improvement activities for department and organization.

Maintains treatment area, desk area, equipment and supply inventory.

Associate’s Degree from Physical Therapist Assistant Program.

Must have current license to practice as a physical therapist assistant in the State of New Mexico.

Should have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.
