As a Physical Therapy Assistant at Amedisys you will:

  • Carry out hands-on treatment, implementation and documentation of patient status for home health patients under the direction of the physical therapist (PT)

  • Provide valuable input into the patient's care and care treatment

  • Be provided with a consistent case load

  • Communicate on a regular basis with the Physical Therapist as to the status, progress, and needs of the patient

  • Job Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS



    On or before December 31, 2009, are licensed, registered or certified as a PTA and met one of the two following requirements:

    1. Is licensed or otherwise regulated in the state in which practicing; or

    2. In states that have no licensure or other regulations, or where licensure does not apply, PTAs have:

  • graduated on or before December 31, 2009, from a 2-year college-level program approved by the APTA or CAPTE; and

  • effective January 1, 2010, those PTAs must have both graduated from a CAPTE approved curriculum and passed a national examination for PTAs;



    PTAs may also qualify if they are licensed, registered or certified as a PTA, if applicable and meet requirements in effect before January 1, 2008, that is,



  • they have graduated before January 1, 2008, from a 2 year college level program approved by the APTA; or

  • on or before December 31, 1977, they were licensed or qualified as a PTA and passed a proficiency examination conducted, approved, or sponsored by the U.S. Public Health Service.



    Beginning January 1, 2010, a qualified PTA is a person who is licensed as a PTA by the state in which practicing, and graduated from an approved curriculum for PTAs, and passed a national examination for PTAs



    3. Current CPR certification.

    4. Must be familiar with general use and functions of the computer, such as, user names and password concepts; internet; e-mail; navigation of computer desktop, including starting programs, using files, and windows, effectively use navigation buttons and tool bars; ability to self-manage online HR services and online training programs.

    State Specific-QUALIFICATIONS

    Florida State Specific:

    The physical therapist assistant shall be currently licensed in the state, pursuant to Chapter 485, F.S., with at least 1 year of experience under the supervision of licensed physical therapist.



    Louisiana State Specific:

    Must be supervised by a Physical Therapist



  • Michigan State Specific:

    A PTA can work without a PTA license until January 1, 2011. After this date, the PTA must have either a limited (temporary license) or a full PTA license in order to work. No limited physical therapist assistant licenses will be issued after December 31, 2010. In order to practice as a physical therapist assistant in Michigan on or after January 1, 2011, you must hold either a limited or full physical therapist assistant license.



  • Pennsylvania State Specific:

    PTA to practice with “indirect supervision” must have an approved APPLICATION FORPHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT TO PRACTICE WITH INDIRECT SUPERVSION by the Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy.



    Virginia State Specific:

    The physical therapy assistant shall be currently licensed by the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy and shall practice under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
