Function:  

To provide medically prescribed evaluation and treatment of individuals following accepted practice guidelines, in a home health care setting.

General Statement of Responsibility: 

The registered (licensed) therapist has the direct responsibility for patient care.  Obligations include:  (1) developing and effecting highest standards and techniques of patient care; (2) competence in administration of prescribed therapy; (3) instructing the patient, caregiver, home health aide, or nurse in techniques not specifically required to be conducted by the therapist; (4) maintaining liaison with all members of health care team; (5) evaluating the effectiveness of the exercises rendered the patient; (6) documenting patient care accurately and in a timely manner; and (7) completing continuing education and licensure requirements.

Education:  Must be a graduate of a school approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.

Knowledge and Abilities:  Thorough knowledge of professional theory, practice, techniques, principles and equipment.  Effective oral and written communication skills.  Ability to document patient care effectively.  Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with patients, other health care professionals, physicians, and the public.

Special Requirements:  Must hold current state licensure, CPR certification, drivers license, and automobile liability insurance.
