Heartland Area Education Agency 11 has current opening for a part time Physical Therapist for the 2009-10 school year.

*Part-time opening for Region 10 in the Johnston office. This will be 96-day contract over 12-month period, serving birth to 21 years of age in the West Des Moines district.

Qualified candidates must have completed a Physical Therapy program, have a current license to practice physical therapy in the state of Iowa, and obtain a Statement of Professional Recognition from the Board of Educational Examiners. Successful candidates will organize and administer the physical therapy component of the educational program for children and youth with disabilities who have special needs in education because of impairment in self-care, mealtime skills, and/or manipulation skills. Pediatric experience preferred.

Position Title:  Physical Therapist

 

Qualifications:

Minimum:

·       Graduated from a Physical Therapy program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)

·       Successfully completed a period of clinical internship required by accredited program.

·       Successfully completed entry-level examination for physical therapists administered by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)

·       Current state license to practice physical therapy in the state of Iowa.

·       Current Statement of Professional Recognition through the Department of Education.

 

Preferred:

·       Experience or interest in pediatrics desired.

·       Knowledge of evidence-based practices in pediatrics.

 

Accountable to:

Director of Special Education and assigned Partnership Director

 

Primary Objective of the Position:

Assist the Director of Special Education while under the direct supervision of the Partnership Director to develop, implement and coordinate physical therapy services and resources for children, birth to high school graduation, who have been identified with or are suspected of having disabilities, to promote mobility (e.g., functional movement) and effective positioning (e.g., transportation, classroom).  Physical therapists collaborate with other team members and community partners to ensure integration of essential therapeutic components are embedded into children’s daily routines.

 

Length of Contract

192 days annually
